From 5th June to 31st July 2023, shutterbugs between the ages of 14 and 25 have passionately embraced this unique opportunity to express their perceptions and further their understanding of the rich tapestry of the Silk Roads. These expansive trade routes, stretching from East Asia to France and the Iberian Peninsula, traverse a diverse landscape of cultures, intertwining regions and fostering cross-cultural encounters.

This year, the contest focuses on the captivating themes of Architecture, Monuments, and Urbanism, inviting participants to present their best photographs encapsulating the essence of these themes within the context of the Silk Roads. These stunning visual narratives serve as a powerful tool for communication, raising awareness, and promoting peace and understanding in our contemporary world.

The selection committee, composed of esteemed experts in the field, will meticulously examine the entries to identify the winners in each age category. The coveted first place will be awarded a professional camera, providing the victorious photographer with a tool to further hone their craft. Second place will receive a semi-professional camera, while the third-place winner will be presented with a standard-model digital camera, encouraging their passion for photography.

To commemorate the artistic achievements of the participants, a traveling exhibition featuring approximately fifty outstanding photographs will be showcased in various locations around the globe, subject to prevailing sanitation restrictions. These exceptional images, capturing the spirit and essence of the contest, will also find their rightful place in a professionally bound photo album, becoming a timeless testament to the participants’ artistic vision.

“The Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads Photo Contest offers a unique platform for young people to connect, exchange ideas, and showcase their creativity. Through the lens of their cameras, they explore the shared heritage and cultural encounters that shape the Silk Roads,” said a spokesperson from UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector. “This contest not only encourages cultural dialogue but also promotes peace and mutual understanding among the diverse populations encompassed by the Silk Roads.”
